This self-proclaimed funky area was established in 2016 and is in the heart of downtown Gulfport. Tucked away behind the local bars and restaurants sits Fishbone Alley. Local artists were invited to "leave their mark," which resulted in multiple murals and expression. So what was once a dull alley is now vibrant with life and color! It has a unique vibe, for sure. Local musicians perform regularly. It is now home to outdoor movie nights, pub crawls, and bed races. Make it funky, keep it funky!

It boasts that it will be a "window to the waters of the Gulf Coast and beyond", featuring many types of local species and creating an educational environment of local ecosystems, conservation and animal research. Their goal is to instill a passion of the aquatic world, and I feel like they will definitely succeed in doing just that!

This is a fantastic spot to spend an afternoon with friends and family. IMMS incorporates very entertaining, and interactive, dolphin shows with education and conservation awareness. They give you an opportunity to watch the dolphins perform, dig for fossils, learn about birds and reptiles in the presentation room, and go through the interactive museum. Here you really have a great hands-on experience at the touch pool, where you can see what horseshoe crabs or stingrays really feel like. There really is something great to experience for every age level. We bring all of our out-of-town friends and family here, and they always enjoy the experience.

Ship Island is such a great place to visit, and offers a very unique attraction to our area. It is one of Mississippi's five barrier islands, and it is part of the Gulf Islands National Seashore. You can get there by recreational boat, or take a ferry from the Gulfport Yacht Club. The ferry is so relaxing, and offers great views as you cruise to the island.

Once you get to Ship Island, you will notice the relaxing feel to it. The water is clear and the sand is warm. You can take a trip through time and tour Fort Massachusetts, go birding, hiking, fishing or just relax on the beach. One main thing you will need to know - there is not a lot of shade on the island, and it can get very warm during the summer, so make sure to bring your beach umbrella!

I love flying out of the Gulfport-Biloxi airport because it is a convenient airport with no wait or fuss. This is a small airport with pretty competitive rates. There are three major airline carriers - Delta Airlines, American Airlines, and United Airlines. It is super easy to get in and out of the airport, and there are rarely any lines anywhere within the airport. The employees are always friendly and patient with travelers. There is also a USO office and lounge for our many military personnel that call our Coast their home away from home.

  • Gulfport is the second largest city in Mississippi after the state capital Jackson. It is the larger of the two principal cities of the Gulfport-Biloxi metro area. As of the 2012 census, the city of Gulfport had a total population of just over seventy thousand people.

The city offers a host of opportunities for employment, entertainment and slow southern living. The climate ranges from summertime highs of around 90 degrees to an average wintertime low of around 42 degrees. The average precipitation for the South Mississippi area is just over sixty inches annually but it is a rare occurrence indeed to experience any ice or snow.

The local economy is supported by several large employers such the Naval Seabee Base, the home to the Atlantic Fleet Seabees and Gulfport Memorial Hospital, which is the 2014 "Best Hospital in Mississippi".

Of course, we also enjoy hundreds if not thousands of small businesses as well. You'll have no trouble finding a hotel, a favorite restaurant, golf course, shop, theater or museum. Ah the fishing! Our waters provide fresh fish to the local markets daily or you can just go down to the harbor and buy it from the Captain. If you prefer to catch it yourself, we also have a host of boats available for charter and if shallow water fishing is more your taste, we also have the rivers, canals and bayous where the fishing is great and the trip is short!

Available housing opportunities are wide ranging indeed! The beach area has some of the finest older, established, oak-shaded neighborhoods in the region where life is quiet and the kids still walk to school. Of course, if your tastes require something a little more elegant, we have upscale condos and large, expansive waterfront Colonials that are rich in history and tradition.

Median home prices in the city as a whole are around $105,000 for a typical 3 bedroom, 2 bath single-family home of about 1,600 square feet of living space. Of course, some are less and some are significantly more but home values here still rival those of just about any market in the nation.
